Rewriting the Rules of Streaming Television: The Executive Who Built Her Own Table

Ellen Mahloy noticed a gap in the streaming landscape that no one else seemed to be addressing. Established platforms in the metaphysical and wellness space, such as Gaia, served practitioners who already had bestselling books and large followings. But astrologers, life coaches, and healers who were just beginning their careers, with a few years of experience and no major platform behind them, had nowhere to go.

Mahloy set out to build that platform. Today she serves as CEO of Ethereal TV Networks, a streaming service dedicated to mind, body, and spirit content, with a mission to give emerging practitioners in the conscious media space the professional home that larger platforms have not offered them.

Her path to that role began in corporate technology, decades before she had any connection to television or the metaphysical world, and it took a series of unexpected turns to get her here.

A Different Kind of Mind

Mahloy was not a strong student in high school. She read slower than her classmates and struggled with subjects that seemed to come easily to everyone else. Nobody knew why. It would be years before she learned she had dyslexia.

College told a different story. She studied fine art and thrived, discovering for the first time what it felt like to excel. But when she graduated, she did not want the uncertain life of an artist. She wanted something stable. She bounced between jobs until she landed in corporate America, answering phones.

A few months later, an internship in the marketing department changed everything. Mahloy discovered that the same dyslexia that had slowed her down in school gave her something unexpected: three dimensional thinking. When colleagues brought her technical problems, she understood them faster and more thoroughly than most people around her, because she could see how every piece fit together. She had found her career. She became an IT project manager, and later worked on the team that helped launch what is now Sirius XM Radio.

Then her body started failing her, and this time the answers were even harder to come by.

Seven Years of Not Being Believed

It began with dizzy spells. Then her hair started falling out. Then came chronic fatigue that never let up. Mahloy went to doctor after doctor, and for years, the answer was the same: she was a stressed out corporate executive who needed yoga and meditation.

She knew that was not it. But the medical establishment did not take her seriously until her condition worsened enough to be undeniable. Liver damage. Heart problems. Joint pain. All while she was still in her twenties and early thirties.

The answer came, as it often does, from an unexpected place. At a Christmas party, a woman approached Mahloy and introduced herself as a medical doctor from Korea. She told Mahloy plainly that she was gravely ill, and asked if she knew why. Mahloy did not. The woman invited her to come to her office, where she delivered a diagnosis Mahloy had never even heard of: gluten intolerance.

Mahloy changed her diet, and within three years, she had regained her health completely. Her hair grew back. The seven year mystery was finally over.

An Unplanned Path Into Reiki

During that same stretch of her life, Mahloy was dating a man from California who suggested she try alternative approaches to healing. She had little familiarity with the concept. When his suggestions included Reiki, she initially assumed it was a form of martial art. A brief search corrected that impression. Reiki, she learned, is a Japanese energy healing practice, and her first reaction was skepticism.

Still, she set a personal condition. If a Reiki practitioner crossed her path, she would give it a try. Two weeks later, her boyfriend came home and told her that his martial arts instructor also happened to be a Reiki master, and had offered to teach her that weekend.

Mahloy took the class and found she connected with the practice immediately. Her health kept improving. She married her boyfriend a month later, and for a wedding gift, her instructor offered to teach her Reiki level two. That is when her life took its next turn.

An Unexpected Sensitivity

During the attunement ceremony, something changed in Mahloy that neither she nor her teacher could fully explain. She began experiencing what she describes as contact from those who had died, an ability she had never sought and did not initially want.

At first, she tried to set the experience aside, assuming it would pass. It did not. She reached out to her Reiki master, who told her honestly that he had never known anyone to develop this kind of sensitivity from Reiki training and had no explanation to offer.

So Mahloy worked through it on her own terms. She began responding directly, explaining that she was not equipped to help in the way clergy or family members could. One especially difficult encounter eventually led her, in a moment she describes as instinctive, to ask for support beyond herself. What she experienced next she later came to understand, within her own spiritual framework, as the presence of Archangel Michael. Her husband, who was in the room at the time, independently described feeling a sudden shift in the air.

From that point forward, Mahloy began to sense a broader spiritual presence around her regularly. What began as one of the most disorienting experiences of her life gradually became, in her words, simply part of how she moves through the world.

Building a Home for Her Community

Mahloy never set out to launch a television network. The idea came from people already working in the industry, who approached her because they understood she had technical experience. She had been out of tech for twenty years by then, but she told them she would research it, and spent months studying what already existed in what is known as conscious media.

That research confirmed the gap she had already sensed. Ethereal TV Networks was built to close it. Mahloy assembled a small team spread across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and designed a model that sits between two extremes. Ethereal is not pay for play, and it does not send television crews to film every creator on location. Instead, television professionals, editors, set designers, and filmmakers work directly with content creators to elevate their production quality, wherever they happen to be in the world.

The network is currently in a soft launch, with plans to expand its technology through 2026 and reach top tier capability in 2027. Its programming already spans the expected, including yoga, meditation, and astrology, alongside lesser known practices like aerial yoga, along with podcasts, cooking shows, and outdoor programming still in development.

The Thread That Connects It All

Mahloy describes her career and personal path as a series of unplanned turns, each one leading somewhere she did not initially expect but ultimately embraced. It traces a line from a chance conversation at a holiday gathering that led to her health diagnosis, to a Reiki class that reshaped her spiritual life, to the television professionals who approached her with an idea for a network built around technical expertise she had set aside years earlier.

Today, she brings together every part of that path. The analytical thinking she developed managing complex technical systems. Her years in corporate technology and satellite radio. The healing and spiritual community she later became part of. All of it now serves a single purpose: building a platform where metaphysical practitioners, healers, and emerging content creators finally have a professional home.

“I love technology. I love art. I love our community,” Mahloy said. “I’m thrilled to be able to support that community.”
