VinFast’s VF 9 is more than a new entry in the crowded electric vehicle (EV) landscape—it’s a bold declaration of the Vietnamese automaker’s global ambitions. As the company’s flagship SUV, the VF 9 arrives on U.S. roads with a clear message: VinFast is here to compete in the premium EV market, and it’s aiming straight for American families.
With its three-row layout, high-end features, and competitive pricing, the VF 9 is positioning itself as a fresh alternative in the still-narrow field of full-size electric SUVs.
When a carmaker introduces a flagship, it’s not just about the vehicle—it’s about the brand’s vision. “We believe that the VF 9 will be the ideal vehicle for large families, delivering premium quality and a luxurious experience while maintaining excellent value,” said Mike Nolte, Network Sales Vice President of VinFast U.S.
Designed for American Roads—and Families
VinFast’s timing is no accident. The American appetite for SUVs shows no signs of slowing. According to JATO Dynamics, trucks and SUVs accounted for 75% of all U.S. vehicle registrations in 2024. These larger vehicles not only deliver higher margins—they shape consumer perceptions. Even those who don’t purchase a flagship often take note of what it represents about the brand.
For VinFast, a relative newcomer in the U.S. market, the VF 9 (alongside the VF 8 before it) is a proof point: a statement of capability, design, and direction.

A Focus on Premium Essentials
The VF 9 was designed with the core attributes of a luxury SUV in mind: sophisticated aesthetics, strong performance, advanced safety, and meaningful technology. Crafted in collaboration with famed Italian design house Pininfarina, the VF 9 cuts a striking figure. At over 201 inches long and nearly 79 inches wide, it offers generous space while maintaining a sleek, balanced silhouette. Its 7.2-inch ground clearance allows versatility across various driving conditions without compromising on style.
Freed from the constraints of a traditional engine, the VF 9 includes a front storage compartment and a spacious interior that seats six or seven passengers. The cabin centers around a 15.6-inch touchscreen display offering navigation, streaming, and connectivity features. Paired with the VinFast app, drivers gain access to a broad public charging network, making EV ownership more seamless.
Performance That Meets Real-World Needs
Under the hood—or rather, beneath the chassis—both the Eco and Plus trims feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain generating 402 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to move the VF 9 from 0 to 60 mph in under 7 seconds. The EPA-estimated range is 330 miles for the Eco trim and 290 miles for the Plus.
Rather than chasing headline-grabbing specs, VinFast says it focused on what luxury buyers actually use day-to-day: real-world performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Safety and Confidence at the Forefront
Safety is central to the VF 9’s proposition. The SUV features 11 airbags and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems designed to provide peace of mind in a variety of driving situations. From adaptive cruise control to lane-keeping support, these systems help meet the expectations of discerning buyers in the premium space.
Further boosting consumer confidence is VinFast’s industry-leading 10-year, 125,000-mile warranty—an unusually generous offering, especially for a newer name in the U.S. market.
A Statement of Intent
The VF 9 stands out not just because it fills a gap in the market—offering three rows of seating in an electric SUV—but because it carries the weight of VinFast’s international aspirations. As EV makers jockey for position in a rapidly evolving industry, the VF 9 serves as both product and promise.
It’s not just another model in the lineup—it’s a signal of where VinFast is headed and how it wants to be seen: as a serious player in the future of electric mobility.
