VinFast Aims To Push EV Adoption By Making Charging Seamless

Many potential EV buyers worry about the hassle of charging their vehicles, accessing and paying for charging. VinFast aims to bridge the gap with a streamlined app, making the charging experience simpler and more reliable.

Electric vehicle technology has evolved rapidly, yet many consumers remain cautious about switching from traditional vehicles. One of the key concerns is the perceived difficulty and inconvenience of accessing public charging stations.

McKinsey data shows that 42% of “skeptical EV buyers”—those who prefer to buy at least one more gas-powered car before switching—would only consider an EV if public chargers were as available as gas stations. At the same time, many also worry about complex payment processes, which can undermine overall confidence in EVs.

In response, industry players are focusing on enhancing the user experience. Nasdaq-listed VinFast is one such EV maker, offering an all-in-one app designed to provide access to a wide network of charging stations, simplify the charging process, and boost consumer confidence in electric vehicles.

The Perceived Hassle of EV Charging

As people buy EVs or know others who have, concerns about whether they’ll be able to find a charger or end up stranded with an empty battery are fading. Once drivers get behind the wheel of an EV, worries about range anxiety significantly decrease, according to a 2024 Plug In America study.

Yet, while the growth in charging infrastructure has addressed some concerns, software-related challenges remain a deterrent, as charging an EV is still a novel act compared to refueling at a gas station.

“People used to smooth transactions – at petrol pumps, shopping online, or buying lunch on an aeroplane at 30,000 feet – will have little patience for complex and cumbersome EV charging transactions,” said Keith Brown, Managing Director of an EV payment specialist company.

A mid-2024 survey by Brown’s company highlighted EV charging complexities, with 87% of respondents having had to download a new app at the charging point at least once in order to pay. Furthermore, 45% of drivers said they’ve had to call customer support to complete a payment, and 61% have left the charge point because of unacceptable payment options.

As EV adoption expands, “expectations will rise,” Brown said. Anticipated hassles like unfamiliar payments and wait times can heighten anxiety, deterring potential buyers even when infrastructure is sufficient.

To persuade more people to make the switch, building trust is essential by addressing these perceived hurdles. By simplifying the charging experience, providers can change public perception and make electric vehicles a more attractive, practical option. A smoother user experience builds lasting consumer trust.

VinFast Strives for a Seamless Charging Experience

VinFast aims to tackle the charging inconvenience with an user-friendly app—aptly named the VinFast App—that allows drivers to access 95% of public charging stations nationwide and over 100,000 chargers across North America. This network includes more charging partners than any other brand.

The VinFast App simplifies charging with an intuitive design that allows users to quickly locate available chargers and complete in-app payments with minimal fuss. It also includes remote charging management, real-time updates, and integrated route planning to help drivers navigate their trips more efficiently. A clear, efficient interface further reduces the anticipated hassle of charging.

Beyond charging, the app serves as a comprehensive hub for vehicle maintenance and support. It offers 24/7 customer assistance and flexible maintenance scheduling, ensuring a seamless ownership experience.

By focusing on the user experience, VinFast eliminates concerns about delays and complicated processes. The app transforms charging into a predictable, manageable task that fits into daily routines.

VinFast’s commitment to user experience helps shift public perception, making electric vehicles a more attractive option for everyday drivers. As consumers encounter fewer barriers, the transition to EV ownership becomes smoother and more appealing.
