In the vast expanse of the internet, where genuine connections can feel like rare treasures, Yubo stands out for its real-time interactions and meaningful engagement. The live social discovery app brings people together based on shared interests, passions, and vibes. If you have yet to hear of it, get ready to dive into a world where connection knows no bounds.
So, what exactly is Yubo? Think of it as your digital playground, where you can chat with like-minded individuals. Whether you’re into gaming, music, fashion, or simply looking for good conversation, the live social discovery app has something for everyone. Founded in 2015 by CEO Sacha Lazimi, Jérémie Aouate, and Arthur Patora, Yubo isn’t just another social media platform — it’s a dynamic community where users can forge connections based on shared interests and passions.
During a discussion on the “Big Technology Podcast,” Lazimi said, “[There] has always been a primary need to socialize with other people in real life. Now, it’s also a primary need to socialize online in a very safe way. And this is our mission at the company.”
What Sets Yubo Apart From Other Social Discovery Apps?
It’s all about the power of social discovery. Instead of swiping endlessly through profiles, hoping to find someone who shares your love for obscure ’90s sitcoms or Japanese street fashion, Yubo takes a different approach. The app connects users with nearby users who share their interests by combining geolocation and customizable filters.
While other apps may prioritize metrics and influencer-driven content, Yubo remains steadfast in facilitating organic conversations and group interactions. Whether you’re into gaming, movies, or engaging in lively debates, Yubo provides a platform to find your tribe and engage in meaningful conversations with fellow enthusiasts.
“Everything is made for you to stay at your place and to watch a stream and be passive, but nothing is made for you to just interact with other people and have a meaningful conversation as we had 50 years ago when we didn’t have internet, and we didn’t have a phone, and we had to go out to do things because we were bored,” said Lazimi.
“Well, today, with all of this connection, you feel more and more lonely, and that’s why we are building Yubo. Social discovery is the next vertical of social platforms because people need a way to socialize.”
One of the most exciting features of Yubo is its livestreaming capabilities. Picture this: You’re scrolling through the app, checking out different profiles, and stumble upon a livestream dedicated to discussing the latest Marvel movie. You join the conversation, share your theories about the next installment, and before you know it, you’ve found your fellow Avengers enthusiasts. It’s like being at a virtual meetup, where the only requirement is a passion for superheroes.
Yubo is also about expanding your horizons and discovering new passions. With its diverse user base worldwide, you never know whom you might meet or what you might learn. From swapping travel stories with someone halfway across the world to discovering underground music scenes in your backyard, Yubo opens doors to endless possibilities.
“We don’t have influencers,” Lazimi explained. That’s why the rooms have, on average, four to five people, and they never have rooms with thousands of people in them. It’s really small rooms of people interacting together, hanging out, having fun, playing games, debating, like you would do if you were in your living room, having a party, and speaking with other people.
Safety Concerns
Privacy and safety are always top priorities, and the live social discovery app employs strict moderation policies to ensure a positive user experience. From age verification measures to real-time content monitoring, Yubo is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can feel welcome.
“Everything that is visual, textural, and audio is scanned by the algorithm that flags the bad content for our safety specialist, to either automatically delete the bad content or help our safety specialist investigate if there is something to do on the platform,” said Lazimi.
The live social discovery app also uses artificial intelligence. “For example, if you want to send your phone number to someone on our platform, we will warn you to say, ‘Hey, this is private information. Are you sure you want to share this information?’ Because at some point, it can be dangerous if you do that,” said Lazimi.
The app uses AI and generative AI for a unique feature on the platform called Pixels. When someone sends you a Pixel, you receive YuBucks, which you can use to purchase Boosts, Spotlights, Turbos, and more Pixels. This system works both ways, so if you’re enjoying a livestream, you can send Pixels to the streamer as a way of saying thanks — and they’ll also receive some YuBucks in return.
Lazimi said, “Pixels is basically a feature where you can offer pixel art to other users so they can put those pixel art in their profile. We use generative AI to create new collections every month, which is very powerful. We are gaining a lot of time and are capable of creating many more collections within a month and having a lot more creativity with that.”
Lazimi mentioned that Yubo is “working on assisting our users when they are making new friends. So, for example, we are assisting them when they are sending private information to inform them and educate them on what is dangerous on the application. And maybe at some point, we will also help them start the conversation, giving them topics of conversation and helping them translate what they are.”
So, who exactly is flocking to Yubo? The short answer: everyone. With millions of users in 140 countries, the app attracts a diverse range of individuals. Whether you’re a Generation Z trendsetter or a seasoned social media millennial, you have a place on Yubo. With its intuitive interface and user-friendly design, getting started is as easy as downloading the app and creating your profile.
