Ai as an emerging technology is still growing. As it morphs into different forms and functions, it changes the industries that rely on its technologies. In addition, regulations and standards governing Ai are still changing, so the fields that rely on Ai will change further.
Renewable energy has been around since the 19th century. Therefore, it is surprising that environmentally friendly methods of energy production do not have a monopoly in the power production sector. This is because of some challenges, political, social, technical, and economical.
Ai’s entry into the sector changed the course of renewable energy for the better.
Economic Changes
The initial cost of planning and implementing an Ai-powered smart grid is higher than the planning and implementation of a grid without Ai technology. This is because the initial cost of the Ai capable computers, processors, and sensors is very high.
The cost of maintaining an Ai-powered smart grid is relatively cheaper than the cost of maintenance of a traditional electrical grid. Sensors can send data on possible faults long before they can cause expensive breakdowns.
The expenses spent on fueling vehicles are reduced drastically. The vehicles used to check cables and search for breakages are no longer used because the system can detect such mishaps.
Infrastructure Changes
Data Centers now have to be put up in any smart grid. Ai systems will need data collection infrastructure, data processing infrastructure, and data storage infrastructure.
Networking Infrastructure now has to be considered in smart power grids. The devices in a smart power grid have to be connected to create an optimum smart grid. This provides the Ai with sufficient data to make the right choices.
Servers are an integral part of the Ai system. They contain the processors and storage systems that the Ai needs to function optimally.
Sensors are now an important consideration during the implementation of a smart grid. This is because the sensors collect all the data that the Ai uses to run its major functions.
Job Changes
For Grid Operators, the vast amounts of data at their fingertips will change how they work. For example, data on weather patterns and data forecasting data will ensure that they can make optimum energy grids.
For security personnel, locating popular vandalism spots and sometimes even apprehending vandals is made easier. Cameras can capture vandals in the act, and sensors can detect any interference in the grid.
For the maintenance crews, data on where a failure on the grid happened, possible causes, and suggestions on how to fix it are available on demand. This makes it easier to find, identify and fix a fault.
Data on every aspect of the power grid is available for the research and development department any time they need it. They can make informed decisions about a project because they have all the data that they need.
The Conclusion
Ai has brought about a lot of change in the infrastructure, the economics, and the jobs of the people involved in the generation of renewable energy. This has improved the generation of renewable energy and streamlined the processes involved. In doing this, Ai might just catapult renewable energy far into the future.
