Definition Of A Resource
A resource is something that has benefit, use, and worth.
Introduction To Smart City Resources
Cities are complex. They need a lot of resources to run efficiently. Smart cities build on the infrastructure of the traditional cities they replace. They utilize the already existing infrastructure to build systems that better utilize the resources. They use the existing infrastructure to provide clean water, efficient public transport, efficient public lighting, advanced security, and reliable power.
Some of the resources in a smart city are;
- Drainage Systems
- Security Systems
- Clean Energy
- Transport Systems
- Water Supply And Purification Systems
- Parking Systems
- Clean Air
Service delivery without these resources would be a nightmare. These resources work together to make smart cities smooth in their working;
Drainage Systems
Drainage systems are the systems that get rid of excess water from the surface of the cities. In smart cities, drainage systems are an important resource. They have to be designed to maximize their utility to ensure no runaway water inconveniences city folk. They also have to have as little an impact on the environment as possible.
Security Systems
Security systems are a priceless resource in smart cities. They comprise smart sensors, cameras, and alarms. A smart city security system should have a comprehensive database and intelligent software. This enables the swift identification and tracking of perpetrators and victims.
Energy
Cities need a lot of power to keep running. Smart cities rely on power for their day to day running. This creates a necessity for a stable and clean power source. The heavy reliance on power makes clean power a valuable resource.
Transport Systems
Transport systems in a smart city consist of well-thought-out roads, footpaths, and rail systems. These systems are well planned to ensure they work together in harmony to avoid congesting the city. This network of cars, trains, buses, trams, and other forms of public transport create a system that a city simply can’t do without.
Water Supply And Purification Systems
Water is essential in the day to day running of a city. Without it, there would be chaos. Overheating of machines, dirt, dust, hunger, and dehydration are just a few examples of things that would happen. For this reason, an elaborate system has to be made to collect and safely distribute clean water throughout smart cities. An effective water recycling system is a valuable addition to the water supply and purification systems.
Space
Space plays a big role in the efficiency of a city. For a smart city, it is a resource that just can’t be done away with. Space is needed for the creation of new infrastructure and upgrading or updating of old infrastructure. Smart cities grow at a fast pace, and for this, there’s no substitute for space. Space can also help streamline the transport infrastructure by giving people slots to park and bus/train stations.
Conclusion Of Smart City Resource
As we have seen, some resources are absolutely important in the creation of a smart city. These resources combined create a city that is efficient, secure, and offers reliable services. They create an ideal smart city, clean and efficient. It is the collective impact of all these resources that create an efficient smart city.
