The multi-talented artist reveals his softer side with the gorgeous ‘An Inti-mate Christmas’
Fans of Bantey who are accustomed to his genre bending Pop,Soul/Afro-beat style are for quite a surprise. On his newest release, he has stripped the instru-mentation down to the bare minimum, revealing himself as a master of melody and mood. His newest EP is the finest example of his pure musicianship to date.
‘An Intimate Christmas’ is filled with familiar melodies, but in Bantey’s hands, they begin to feel brand new. Playing what he describes as “an acoustic guitar through a keytar,” he embraces the beauty of these timeless songs while subtly pushing them into mysterious new territory.
The selections here include well worn classics like ‘Oh Christmas Tree’ and ‘The First Noel’ as well as lesser known standards such as ‘While The Shephards Watched Their Flocks By Night.’ Every one is treated with passion and care, right down to the jazz inflected live version of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ that closes the album. During a difficult holiday season, Bantey has delivered a much needed dose of cheer and goodwill.
