Exclusive Interview with Marco Valentinsig

What motivated you to start your company?

I have always had a strong vocation for marketing, I feel very close to communication. Furthermore, the Italian digital market is very different from the American one, which however allowed me to take a look at the future. A very similar thing is happening in many areas, not only in the digital scenario, for example with divorces. In the United States, families are now divided and united by several families while in Italy just now the divorce lawyers have increased their rhyme. In the same way, communication agencies are decaying and all this has inspired me to undertake an entrepreneurial path.

What words of wisdom can you give to the aspiring entrepreneur?

My advice is that there is never an end to the fantasy. If your person is akin to a specific sector or product category, nothing prevents you from thinking big and breaking out of the conventional patterns created by the society in which we live. The great thing about being an entrepreneur is that you can give free rein to ideas, improving the sector in which you operate or raising the rank of your company. You are master of what happens and responsible for what you create, the risk is the daily bread but this is the beauty of doing what you like.

Where do you see yourself and your business in five years?

I don’t know where I see myself but I know where I don’t see myself. I’m rolling out new ideas to our business weekly, so in five years I don’t think I’ll be where I am now. We are focusing on many objectives which include better internal corporate social management, training for corporate social media managers and we are creating a system to improve the presence and positioning of companies and influencers on Tripadvisor. I’m not where I will be in 5 years but I have a great feeling for the future.

What is the ultimate mission of what you are seeking to accomplish?

Tripadvisor in 2018 became a social platform and I threw myself into it. No marketer has yet landed on this social network and being Italian I can’t help but give my contribution to the whole tourism category. I am therefore committed to training companies and creators on this new social network, to increase their business by bringing real value to sectors such as catering and hotels. My company is the only one in Italy to have focused on this platform, we were the first to launch a video course for companies called Tripadvisor Basic Business. It is a new challenge and I am really happy to have taken this path.

What is the secret to your success?

There is no secret unfortunately. There is a lot of effort and dedication, there is textbook reading, study, application of theories and ideas, experimentation and many new experiences. I believe that success comes from setting yourself to reach a goal, success depends a lot on the determination and dependence you develop on yourself. Furthermore, success is not a constant, it is more like a sinusoid, it is achieved but it is extremely unlikely to keep it constant, so it is a continuous work because you always have to pick it up, reach it.

What are your final words?

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you something about me and what I am doing here in Italy. I hope to be able to broaden my horizons more and more and to come to work in your magnificent country and why not meet you in the editorial office.

Grazie mille.
