I’m one of those people that are always on the go and find it difficult to carry a Qur’an with myself all the time. However, at every opportunity I’m always on my phone, so it makes sense that I find myself a Qur’an app. I carried out a research to find myself the best one.
Here are the benefits that I’m gaining from using Quranology:

After a thorough (I take my Qur’an seriously) browse of the online world I came across a new app in the market that took my attention straightaway. It is one of the best Quran app that I’ve come across. It has been really well thought out.
Now I can safely say that analysing and studying the Qur’an no longer has to be difficult or exclusive to Islamic schools thanks to the Quranology app. Founded at the beginning of this year, by Adam Sayid, who is an independent researcher in Islamic theology, philosophy and Qur’anic hermeneutics. The Quranology app is now my personal favourite Qur’an app, as it is unique and it is more than just an eBook.
Here are the benefits that I’m gaining from using Quranology:
• As a non-Arabic reader, the multiple translator comparison ability helps me to compare and formulate my own understanding of the message of the Qur’an.
• Whenever I’m intrigued by some passage and a thought comes to my mind that needs documenting, I have at my disposal an inbuilt notebook, where I can easily note down those thoughts and it saves it like a diary. This rare feature is just brilliant for serious students and academics.
• If I come across a verse that I’d like to remember, I have the option in hand to highlight any passage and save it as my favourite. Which I can replay at anytime.
• Sometimes, you may switch to some other work while reading. To make sure that you don’t have to search for the line you read before switching to another app/work, the app offers continue reading feature, or bookmarking. This is really useful for me.
• There is an in-built search utility to find a specific text, verse, chapter, subject etc. This helps me to instantly put together a topic I’m analysing.
• If you’re like me who struggles to keep organised and forgets everything, the quick easy reminder option will come handy to structure your studies of the Qur’an. Again very useful for students.
• The inbuilt classical Arabic dictionary should be a great interest for schools and academics. Or anyone that is learning Arabic. In fact, the founder of the app tells me there will be Arabic learning facility in the near future too.
• What if you have come across a passage that you feel you need to share with others on WhatsApp or Facebook etc?! The sharing facility lets you easily and instantly share any passages with any other platforms that you use on your smartphone.
Now the following features of Quranology gets really interesting, as no other Qur’an apps includes such brilliant features…
• All registered users can create customised groups with other users to study the Qur’an and discuss its contents. They can use text, videos, audios, links and picture formats to communicate their points of discussions.
• Registered users can also create their own unique profile “pages” to promote their interests, causes, hobbies, or even fundraise for a cause and directly send the funds to a charity of their choice.
• Just like other social media platforms, users can give and receive friend requests creating their own personal social surrounding to discuss and learn about the Qur’an.
• Consequently this creates a live feed, where posts from others gives the users plenty to be occupied with.
You’d think that an app packed full of so much goodness will cost to download. Surprisingly Quranology is completely free for the user.
Presence of these features is the main reason why I believe this app is going to soon become the most popular, specially amongst students, academics and anyone that is seriously interested in the Qur’an from a scholastic angle and love to learn through discussing with each other’s findings.
I recommend the Quranology app to all schools that teaches the message of the Qur’an to their students.
Also it is important to keep in mind that Quranology is continuously in development, so you will find new features being introduced at every update, so you will never get bored of it.
